OBJECTIVES OF THE CB WORKOUT

Capacity Building is the "process of developing and strengthening the skills, instincts, abilities, processes and resources that organizations and communities need to survive, adapt, and thrive in the fast-changing world."

The fulcrum of this training is to offer relevant and strategic staff members of the NLRC the
opportunity to do real-life and real-time capacity building to prepare them ahead of the revision exercise.

OBJECTIVES

Ahead of the LFN revision exercise, the proposed Capacity building is valuable and important as it strives to:
  • meaningfully minimize an over-reliance on outside experts and consultants as knowledge base optimal resources to the need of the NLRC. By enhancing the capacity and competencies of in house resources, a pool is developed to take action on strategic issues themselves.
  • foster a sense of ownership and empowerment, so that in house counsel gain greater control over the activities of the NLRC.
  • strengthen confidence, skills, knowledge, and resources that increase from capacity building efforts on one project may enhance NLRC ability to envision and take action on other projects.
  • be sensitive to the particularities and specific need of NLRC and as a result, will lead to more feasible and appropriate corporate enhancement and development.
  • acknowledge that growth, learning, and change occur reciprocally and to that extent, participants are expected to be different, more effective and effecting in addressing the complex and convoluted issues that are associated with law revision at the end of exercise.
DELIVERABLE
  • The five day exercise is expected to provoke robust ideas and interrogation of issues and frank information sharing as well as provide a platform for the formation of deliberate team spirit among the participants.
  • It is expected that the exercise will enhance the quality of any research and ancillary works that will go along the revision exercise and hopefully facilitate its accomplishment.
  • It will inspire the development of innovative and inventive avenues for legal reforms and revision as well as engage participants in a collaborative call-to-action to lead positive social change that impacts on the law.
  • The aim of the discussions is to lead to innovative solutions and reforms of the extant legal frameworks on the various areas with a view to erecting a viable super structure for bringing the law together.
  • It will give all interested persons a greater appreciation of the opportunities and challenges of the Nigeria legal system from diverse perspectives as well as grant them access to the various, sometimes, divergent positions held in different quarters on the various subject.
  • Stimulation of ideas on the imperatives of an all encompassing law Revision anchored on proactive module.

ASSURANCES

  • We shall strive to respect the various areas of expertise of the facilitators and resource persons bearing in mind that their wealth of experience and convictions will be reflected in their delivery.
  • We will make effort to ensure that the facilitators adopt the principles of open-mindedness and allow opinions and perspectives that differ from theirs, whilst ensuring that all contributions are made in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
  • We expect that tasks undertaken will be devoid of sentiments and be positively driven by the over-riding objective of ultimately aiding a smooth revision of the LFN for eventual development and progress of Nigeria.
